The Simple Woman’s Daybook – July 14th

The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Capturing a moment in time, reminding myself to be aware of the present.

My current favorite coffee mug

Looking out my window, the sun is finally starting to set. The summer days are so long here in the Pacific Northwest.

I am thinking about how few photos I’ve taken recently. My focus has been on my editing business so I haven’t made any interesting meals or stopped to take pictures on my walks.

I am thankful that I didn’t have to go to the grocery store today. Shopping is even more stressful now that the virus is rampant. I’ll be visiting the Japanese market tomorrow to stock up on some necessities.

Cat quilt puzzle

One of my favorite things – puzzles! This puzzle took me about three weeks to complete. The border was not fun at all but assembling the cats was a blast! This guy was my favorite because of the expression on his face.

So pleased

I am creating not much at the moment. Summer is my slowest season for crafting. I knit once every two weeks and am making a lot of progress on my scarf. This particular scarf is not a favorite, neither the yarn nor the pattern. But it keeps my hands busy and uses up a tiny bit of my yarn stash. I am looking forward to autumn, when the temperatures drop a bit and I feel inspired to create handicrafts.

I am wearing the complete opposite of the last Daybook post I wrote – jeans and a t-shirt. I’m barefoot. It’s so much hotter than it was in May!

I am listening to a lot of J-pop music these days. It’s good listening practice for my language studies.

I am hoping that the evening cools off a bit. I’d like to go for a walk before bed.

I am learning how to create free content for my editing business. I am starting a Facebook group where I can give away free content in hopes of building trust and relationship with potential clients.

Deviled eggs

In my kitchen – I just recently learned how to make deviled eggs. This batch came out better than the last; I remembered the salt this time!

Shared Quote – “It was at this point that Bilbo stopped. Going on from there was the bravest thing he ever did. The tremendous things that happened afterward were as nothing compared to it. He fought the real battle in the tunnel alone, before he ever saw the vast danger that lay in wait.” The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien

Puzzle

A moment from my day. I had to take apart my puzzle. It takes so much longer to put them together than it does to take them apart.

Closing Notes – I am still trying to figure out how to balance life. Isn’t that a never ending challenge? These days I’ve been working hard on my business and letting my language studies suffer. I feel like I can do only thing well. I always have to remember to give myself credit for keeping the house relatively clean and my family fed. Everything else is a bonus at this point.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook – May 4th

The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Capturing a moment in time, reminding myself to be aware of the present.

My patio garden

Looking out my window, we are blessed with a warm sunny day. It’s so nice after having several wet days.

I am thinking about our Bible study this morning. We are studying Galatians. Why is it so hard to understand the difference between living under law and grace?

I am thankful that I don’t have to go to the grocery store today. Shopping is even more stressful now that the virus is rampant.

One of my favorite things – a hot cup of coffee.

Knitting project

I am creating an infinity scarf. I am so close to being done but it feels like the project that never ends!

I am wearing my chilly weather default – jeans, thick socks, and a hoodie.

I am listening to The Tim Ferris Show. In this particular podcast, Tyler Cowen is discussing scales. A musician practices scales every day so that he/she can become an expert. A basketball player practices free throws. What is the equivalent of scales for a homemaker?

I am hoping to find more time today to work on my language studies. I’ve already completed my flashcards but I’d like to learn something new.

I am learning (or relearning) high school math with my daughter!

Birthday cupcakes

In my kitchen – leftover cupcakes from my daughter’s 18th birthday.

Post Script – If you have a craving for chocolate, I highly recommend ordering vegan chocolate truffles from Creek House Patisserie‘s Etsy shop. The hazelnut flavor is my favorite, followed closely by the espresso truffle.

Shared Quote – “Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick.” The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien

Flowers

A moment from my day. I’m just sharing this giant box of plants sitting on my dining room table. All of these need transplanted!

Closing Notes – This was a fun exercise in embracing the present moment. As I’m writing this, my husband is on a phone conference, my daughter is playing video games, and a very chipper bird is singing right outside our condo. It’s a busy day but there are also moments of calm.

Simple Woman’s Daybook – September 9th

FOR TODAY

Outside my window… blue skies after an unexpected thunderstorm this afternoon

I am thinking… about working on my current quilt top once dinner is complete

I am thankful… that I did not slice into my finger while trimming photos! The knife barely missed.

From the learning rooms… I finished The Hunchback of Notre Dame today and will be starting The Three Musketeers next week.

In the kitchen… waiting for the tofu to finish pressing so that I can make curry for dinner

I am wearing… blue jean skirt and a simple gray top from Old Navy

I am creating… a new quilt top!

I am going… to church tomorrow morning, the Lord willing

I am wondering… which church I will attend

I am reading… several books at the moment

I am hoping… that my hubby will have the entire weekend off from work

I am looking forward to… the Sabbath! An entire day to spend with God

I am hearing… hubby talking to his mom on the phone

Around the house… all is quiet and all is clean

I am pondering… Levitical laws and which are applicable today

One of my favorite things… quilting and my kitty

A few plans for the rest of the week… curry, quilting, and a good book

Here is picture for thought I am sharing… three sets of 9 patches are complete. Two others are partially complete.

Have a blessed weekend!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook – Entry 3

I haven’t done a Daybook entry in awhile and decided today would be a perfect day for it.

Outside my window… kids walking home from school.

I am thinking… how excited I am that Sabbath starts in only an hour!

I am thankful for… A God who loves me.

I am wearing… a long jean skirt, black leggings, and a purple long sleeve shirt.

I am remembering… the spiritual struggles I’ve been going through this week.

I am going… to study my Bible more.

I am currently reading… Slave, by John MacArthur, Proverbs, and Romans 8.

I am hoping… that I can find the answers to my questions about God.

On my mind… what I’m making for dinner and the upcoming Sabbath rest.

Noticing that… my desk is slowly getting cleaner but it still too cluttered.

Pondering these words… “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

In the kitchen… my dishwasher needs emptied and a few hand washed dishes need put away. I’m making curry for dinner!

Around the house… very clean but needs a woman’s touch… candles or a finished quilt or some art on the walls. Our apartment still looks like a college dorm!

One of my favorite things… knowing my hubby is home for the day.

From my picture journal…
Mom, I don’t know what to think about this thing you call a “kitty carrier.”

But I guess I’ll lay down in it!

Don’t tell him… but that’s called “kitty carrier training part 1: success!”

Simple Woman’s Daybook – Entry 2

I thought I’d post another The Simple Woman’s Daybook entry today to mark the beginning of Sabbath.

Outside my window… the light is quickly fading. Cars drive by on our newly paved road.

I am thinking… how nice it is that my hubby doesn’t have to worry about work for another 24 hours.

I am thankful for… the Sabbath. We’re going to try to make it to church tomorrow, provided we don’t sleep through it! This has been a terrible week for sleep.

From the kitchen… a new pumpkin bread recipe is baking in the oven. Freshly ground cinnamon and nutmeg smells really good!

I am wearing… workout clothes from a walk we took earlier this afternoon.

I am creating… a peaceful atmosphere in our home with a clean house, nice music, and pumpkin bread in the oven.

I am going… to make dinner shortly.

I am reading… nothing at the moment. I just finished a book and haven’t decided what I’m going to start next.

I am hoping… that Sabbath will be restful.

I am hearing… “Let My Words be Few” by Phillips, Craig, and Dean.

Around the house… is clean and relaxed.

One of my favorite things… knowing we’re going to have a nice treat for dessert.

A few plans for the rest of the week… Church tomorrow and a day of relaxation. Nothing specific, though.

A picture thought

Today’s sunset wasn’t quite this pretty, but this is the view from our patio window. I love enjoying the sunsets!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook – Day 1

I’ve seen The Simple Woman’s Daybook in a number of blogs but had never actually thought about participating. This week I thought I’d join in the fun.

Outside my window… a beautiful Arizona sunset.

I am thinking… that Sabbath is almost here!

I am thankful for… Sabbath. I love the opportunity to spend an entire day with God without worrying about the daily stresses.

From the kitchen… We are having sub sandwiches tonight with tons of fresh veggies, followed by leftovers from yesterday’s homemade pumpkin pie.

I am wearing… A green skirt and a purple top. Yes, I know I don’t match. Our AC is still broken so I’m wearing t-shirts instead of my normal attire.

I am creating… Nothing at the moment.

I am going… To have sundown worship after finishing this blog post.

I am reading… The Well Trained Mind. Hopefully I’ll have it finished up this weekend so I can start something new!

I am hoping… That my kitty will stay healthy.

I am hearing… My husband play his DDR game.

Around the house… It is peaceful after the organizing I tackled yesterday.

One of my favorite things… Friends!

A few plans for the rest of the week… Tomorrow is the Sabbath so we’ll be going to church and relaxing with God. I’ll be reading a Christian book tomorrow afternoon, but I have not yet picked out which one.

Usually the daybook also includes a picture for thought, but I have no pictures to post right now.

I hope everyone has a restful time with the Lord this weekend!
